Fowlmead Report - 29-11-2009Fowlmead Report A big thank you and well done to all those Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Parents and Leaders who turned out this morning and helped plant the trees at Fowlmead, on one of the worst mornings weather wise I think we have seen all year! We all arrived in torrential rain, sleet, hail and maybe even a bit of snow, we waited until the rain eased off and then went for it, naturally, half way to the plot that Fowlmead had put aside for us the heavens opened and we were caught in an exposed country park in amongst torrential rain and hail again! Everyone was soaked and freezing by the time we arrived at our plot. With the help of the staff at Fowlmead, we all helped plant the trees as quickly as we possibly could, took a quick photo and then made our way back to the information centre, and off home to get warm and dry! The trees we planted were called a 'Copse' pack of trees, the definition of a Copse is a dense area of woodland, hence why we planted the trees quite closely together. The trees were planted in 3 circles, therefore giving an area in the middle, as the trees develop and grow we will hopefully have our own little woodland area which we can go and visit, once a sutiable base for the plaque has been found it will be marked as donated and planted by 1st Birchington Air Scout Group. I think everyone who attended today should be very proud for sticking it out, and I hope many of you will choose to go and visit the trees (maybe in the spring or summer when the weather is better!!). Those Beavers, Cubs and Scouts that attended will receive a certificate shortly and the event will go towards your badge work. I will be e-mailing a report and some photo's to the editor of the Thanet Gazette in the next couple of days, so make sure to keep and eye out in the local paper.
